Where is Spring?

So as we were enduring the freezing coldness of winter time, I asked someone, when does it end? Their reply was February. Well it is clearly past February and the weather has decided it wanted to do its own thing! We had a few days of beautiful sunny weather but yesterday and again today the rain and the freezing cold are making a comeback. The sad part of all of this is that we left our great big umbrella at a members house who lives far away and so we just had my little battered umbrella that I brought with me from home. I say battered, but really I should say trashed! When the rain comes, it is almost always accompanied by wind, which is evident by the mass amounts of destroyed umbrellas we see strewn all over the streets. (despite the large dumpsters on nearly every street the effort of open them and hefting your garbage inside is too much so most people just choose to drop their trash on the ground.) I was initially bothered by the fact that people would just throw their garbage all over the ground, but as my pathetic little umbrella flipped inside out for the hundredth time I seriously felt like whirling it over my head and hurling it into the street. Don’t worry I didn’t do it! It is a good thing we live by the senior missionary couples because after stopping by their house last night and them seeing our drowned rat appearance, sister Sommerfeldt insisted we take some umbrellas from their house, since they had a few extras. Bless them! If they had not offered those umbrellas I would have continued to use my battered one out of pride and determination that I will not pay for an umbrella when I am so close to the end of my mission, just because I know as soon as I do the rain will stop and I will have no use of it.

So aside from my long rant about the weather life is going pretty good here in Rome 2. We had Zone conference last week and Elder and Sister Paya came and spoke to us.(Elder Paya is in the area 70). They are from France, but they both spoke really pretty good English, they also speak Spanish and sister Paya a little Italian as she served her mission in Italy many many years ago. I love zone conference and the spiritual boost that it is.

This Saturday there is a relief society activity and they have asked for a missionary choir to sing a song as a musical number, the only problem is they choose the song, and it is one that most of us aren’t super familiar with aka it sounds really bad! We are hoping we can get the song changed, I let you know how it goes either way.

The ward is great and me and my companion are getting a long well, I don’t have much more time so I will wrap this up. I love this gospel. The church is true and it brings more joy and light than any other thing. Being a missionary is such an amazing opportunity and I am grateful for all I am learning every single day.

Have a great week!
