How is everyone! Can you believe it is already September? So… let’s see. I just bought myself a card reader (my birthday present to me) and so I spent a bunch of time messing with getting my pictures onto my flash drive, so I don’t have tons of time to write, but I am sending pictures!!! Yeah!! Pictures are worth a thousand words anyways.
This week we have started working with a woman named Monica. She is great!!! And I know that the lord has lead her to a path that merges with ours. Really there are just so many things about the situation that even she has commented “it’s no coincidence.” Hopefully we will be able to meet with her more this week and have some great lessons, we are really anxious to teach her about the plan of salvation. She recently lost her father and I can’t even imagine how hard it must be to accept death without the knowledge we have of our heavenly father’s plan for us.
So this past Sunday, because it was the fifth Sunday of the month, there was a combined priesthood, relief society lesson, and us missionaries were asked to help out a bit by doing some skits at the end of the lesson. The Elders came up with the skits, modern and applicable twists to 2 parables, the good Samaritan and the prodigal son. There is a little bit of an issue in our ward with racial differences and segregation or clicks and also befriending new members so we kinda over exaggerated some situations like refusing to sit by someone in church or spreading gossip until someone became in active and then being upset when people rejoiced at their return. It was kinda funny and It got a good response from the majority of the members.
Ok so random story, sometimes we go to a big open piazza to do Gesso (draw with chalk on a bed sheet). It is not uncommon in Italy to have people all over these types of touristy places trying to sell you stuff or beg for money, in fact there are people who try to sell roses and they actually go as far as to force the flower into your hand and then demand money as you try to walk away with it. Anyways the other day we were doing Gesso and some crazy homeless man was walking towards us, earlier that day I had made brownies to take to a member and I brought the leftovers to share with the other missionaries so when the guy came up to us I offered him a brownie. He took it smiling and walked off happily munching on the treat. It was kinda fun to give a homeless man a brownie and I mentioned that to the other missionaries and one of them said “hey that sounds like the name of a book… if you give a homeless man a brownie…” So I thought I would just share this little story with you along with that title in case any of you budding authors out there were lacking inspiration for the next bestseller.
Well I am almost out of time so I had better go, sorry this isn’t much of an email. But this week to come is bound to be a good one (I have birthday presents to open! Thanks mom!) so I will write something more exciting next week. I love you all. I love this gospel. I know without a doubt this is the true church.
Oh Yeah CONGRATULATIONS Ashli!!!!! I am so excited for you!!!
Here I am contemplating opening my birthday presents early
This really isn't the best picture, but it's the only one I have of me and my new companion.
