Ok I am now officially legal. I have my Permesso di sogiorno and it doesn’t expire until April 2010, so that is pretty lucky! I won’t have to deal with the questura again! Yay!
This past week has been slightly frustrating as far as our investigators go. It seems they have all dropped of the face of the planet, but I am sure they will resurface sooner or later, in the mean time we have a few more potentials in the works and hopefully with general conference this weekend we can spark some interest. One of our potentials is a referral from Salt Lake that I think I mentioned last week. She is really cool and we have a set appointment with her for this Friday. She spent 4 days at temple square and bought a bunch of church films that she has been watching, she seemed real excited about discovering Desert Book. I asked her what sparked her interest in researching the church and she mentioned the book Twighlight and seeing a documentary on polygamy, ha ha random I know, but the lord works in amazing ways. The only kicker to This new potential is that in 2 or so weeks she is leaving to spend 3 months in Canada! Sheesh! Oh well we got some good work to do and I think that if all goes well with this appointment on Friday we just might be able to set it up where we teach her everything before she leaves. We’ll see.
This last Saturday there was a stake activity. It was a performance of dances from different parts of the world, well mostly South American parts of the world, since that is a large majority of our members. There was also featured dances from the Philippines, Africa, Thailand, and The senior office couples did a swing dance to represent America. It was really good aside from the annoying fact that our chapel was built with a ridiculously huge pillar smack dab in the center of the room, which obstructs part of your vision no matter where the center of attention is focused. This pillar is lined up directly with the pulpit, so the chairs are set up on either side for Sunday services, but during the week the chapel is also the cultural hall and so it was kind of a tight squeeze trying to arrange the chairs so that everyone could see the dances. They also had a refreshment table for each of the countries represented, however the younger kids who weren’t particularly entertained by the program pretty much consumed all the desserts from the American table before anyone had a chance to get out there. I think that is evidence right there that American desserts are the best in all the world.
While I am on the topic of food… yesterday me and my companion and the sisters from our neighboring zone ate tacos thanks to my birthday package that included taco seasoning. They were so good, but I just had to laugh at our Americanized Mexican food with Italian influences, cheddar cheese doesn’t exist here so we had mozzarella instead and then we didn’t have any lettuce so we grated carrots as a substitute and they were so good!
So transfers are coming up and it is so crazy to think about. I have no idea what will happen, I know another sister area will close and somewhere there will be a 3-sum so that might create a bit of movement for us sisters, We find out next week so I will let you know.
Ok real quick so that you know I do more than eat and watch dance performances I thought I would share with you something from my studies that I really liked this week. I am reading the Doctrine and Covenants, and some of my favourite verses have been from section 6:34-37 that talk about how if we are built on the gospel nothing can hurt us. Along the same theme Heleman 5:12 is so awesome. It is one of my favourite chapters in the book of Mormon as Heleman counsels his sons but I really like verse 12 to explain how the gospel blesses families. I know that this gospel is the rock that we can all build on and when all the craziness and hardships that life has in store come along and smack us in the face we will not fall. This gospel is so amazing for that very reason and I am so grateful to have the knowledge of it and to be able to share this knowledge with others every day.
I love you all and I hope you are well.
Vi voglio Bene!!

Comment for Sorella Swenson:
Ciao Sorella! This is Sorella Watson's sister, Shannon. I am SO excited you are serving in Roma 1! They are blessed to have you there. I was talking with Francisca Quiroz Munoz last week (she's from Ecuador, but obviously in the Roma 1 ward...) and she knew who you were and said you were great. I know you can't respond directly to me, but next time Marco-Antonio gives you a hard time, tell him that Sorella Watson (senior) told him to be nice! (Don't you love him and his wife?!). Also, if you can, send my love to Arnel and Norme Alabastro (filipino couple), if they are still coming to Church. I sure hope they are. I need to get back in touch with them.... If you have any questions about anything in Roma 1, please don't hesitate to ask!
Sei bravissima Sorella! Vai avanti con fede...
-Shannon Watson
