So last wednesday after writing my emails me and my companion went and did the tourist thing and saw the trevi fountain, the spanish steps and the ... um... nope don't remember what it is called but the big church thing with the open roof It starts with a p I think... anyways it is not important. It was pretty cool. It is so weird to see these places because they are like the famous points of italy that you see in pictures, postcards, and films and they appear to be so wide and open and set apart from the rest of the world when in reality they are just crammed into the middle of the city wedged between a McDonalds and a clothing store. I'm not trying to down play the beauty and amazingness, I am just saying that sometimes we have a different Idea of things until we actually see them.
Somthing I saw a ton of this week.... J Dubs. They were having a 3 day conference here in Rome and guess what, they invited us to come. I had no desire, but my companion as well as some of the Elders were way excited to check it out. We went for an hour or two Saturday morning. Holy Hannahs! 8800 of them feeling a huge stadium! I deffinitely felt out of place. It was more of a buisness or political type rally instead of a spiritual weekend. There was clapping during the talks. There were two portable swimming pools down on the field for baptisms and there were participants from all over the world. Interesting.
We had Zone singing on Sunday, and that is always a good time. Here in Rome there is a spot where all the mission areas kinda come together and so we all get together as a zone every other Sunday and sing (usually about 24 of us plus a handful of members). Because this is such a tourist city there are usually a bunch of people who take pictures or videos of us as they walk by and it makes me laugh to think that I am probably in a million tourist pictures. I actually thought about this cause Becky sent me a picture that some study abroad people had taken of the missionaries in Rome and It is my district, the transfer before I got here and most of them are still here in this area with me. Who knows maybe one day the tourists will be going through their pictures and decide to figure out just who are those strange kids wearing nametags and singing church hymns on the street corner.
This transfer is going by so fast, it is crazy, I feel like I have only been here for a week and now there is just two more weeks left in the transfer. Better make the most of this time with my Italian Companion. Though the funny thing is that they latest contacts and investigators we have found all speak English.
I love this gospel so much, maybe even a little bit more after my morning on Saturday ;). I know with out a doubt that this church is true and that all of us can pray and ask God at anymoment and he will respond to us. Being a missionary is awesome. I love you all!!!
